As PARKER EVANS (C 306052): In collision with and sank U.S. steamer SIDNEY E. SMITH, JR. just below Blue Water Bridge, Port Huron, MI, in St. Clair River, June 5, 1972; no lives lost. EVANS went to Port Weller Dry Docks, Ltd., for extensive bow repairs.On first trip upbound, after above accident, in collision with German ANNA KATRIN FRITZEN, about ten miles northeast of Blue Water Bridge, in Lake Huron, on June 24, 1972. Suffered bow damage above water line. |
Disposition

Stripped of cabins at Toronto, Ontario, in winter, 1980-81, for use as grain storage hulk in Mexico. Foundered, along with LAC DE ISLE, in tow of Canadian tug IRVING BIRCH, 145 miles ESE of Cape Charles, VA, on May 30, 1981. Position was given as 36.19N X 72.52W. |
