History | Removed from documentation in March, 1976, as sold to a Canadian corp. Arrived in tandem tow with JAMES E. FERRIS, at Hamburg, Germany, on July 4, 1975. After arrival in Hamburg, Germany, laid up, along with JAMES E. FERRIS, pending decision on sale to Poul Christensen, of Nakskov, Denmark, for use as storage hulks. Used as storage hulk at Hamburg, 1975-summer 1978, at which time sold for scrapping at Bilbao, Spain. Arrived in tow at Bilbao, Spain, on June 26, 1978, for scrapping. Removed to Pasajes, Spain, on July 16, 1978, apparently for continued use as storage hulk. Was used at Hamburg by Lutgens & Reimers. Arrived at Santander, Spain, on August 29, 1978, for scrapping by Recuperaciones Submarinas S.A. As E.A.S. CLARKE: Sunk in collision with B.F. JONES on October 26, 1924, in Detroit River opposite Great Lakes Engineering Works. CLARKE, downbound with iron ore, had just dropped the anchor in dense fog and was swinging when struck by JONES in after deck house near stack. No lives lost. As KINSMAN VOYAGER: Struck mudbank while backing from Globe Elevator, Superior, WI, September 30, 1972, causing rudder damage. Cleared Superior after repairs, on October 3, 1972. |
Disposition | Sold to Marine Salvage, Ltd., for scrapping, 1974. Arrived at Port Colborne, Ont., on April 22, 1975, in tow of tug SALVAGE MONARCH. Passed Cape Vincent May 2 for Quebec, in tow of tugs HELEN MCALLISTER and SALVAGE MONARCH. Passed Quebec June 7 in tow of Polish tug JANTAR for European scrapping. |
