History

Was the only vessel built by Pacific Steel Barge Company. Chartered to Dunsmuir & Co. in 1894 for service between Comax-San Francisco-Puget Sound. Reported to be first U.S. steam vessel to transit Suez Canal and to circumnavigate the globe. Suffered an explosion and fire while at dock at Port Arthur, Texas, on September 8, 1902. Several crew were injured, but the shore facilities of the Texas Company were destroyed. Collided with the steamer LIEF ERIKSSON near Charleston, South Carolina, in January 1905; two crew members from the ERIKSSON were lost. |

Cleared Santiago, Cuba, on October 7, 1923, and foundered with all hands, whereabouts unknown; twenty-six lives lost. Last document surrendered on October 24, 1923. Was bound for New Orleans. |
