History | First enrollment issued at Milwaukee, WI, August 21, 1867. Ran aground at Buffalo, NY, on September 27, 1867; later released. |
Disposition | Sunk in collision with steamer MORNING STAR, which also sank, June 20, 1868, off Black River (Lorain), OH, about thirty miles west of Cleveland, OH, Lake Erie. Ten lives lost on bark, estimated thirty-two lives lost on steamer. Salvagers raised the rigging and sails on July 13, 1868. Coast Wrecking Company attempted to salvage the anchor and chains on August 16, 1869. On June 4, 1870, Coast Wrecking Company unsuccessfully attempted to raise the CORTLAND and abandoned the wreck. |
