| History | The DEFENDER was the second of a class of 14 mine countermeasure ships constructed by the U.S. Navy in the 1980's. The hull of this vessel was constructed of laminated wood beams supporting four layers of wooden planks of Alaskan cedar and Douglas fir. The hull was sheathed with glass reinforced plastic for preservation and maintainability. |
