History Launched as DODDRIDGE.Built as C1-M-AV1 class cargo vessel under U.S. Maritime Commission contract. Was to be transferred to U.S. Navy, but contract was cancelled on August 16, 1945.
In 1947, operated by Standard Fruit & Steamship Co., New York.
In 1953, transferred to U.S.C.G. to serve as Voice of America transmitter ship. Later made training voyages into Great Lakes, in 1960's.
