History See Lake Log Chips "Scraps", May 17, 1986, p 2. As BENSON FORD: Aground on shoal just off Toledo harbor entrance, January 8, 1974; early efforts to get her off were unsuccessful. Finally, after lightering 3,000 tons of coal off her, four tugs and the USCG BRAMBLE and KAW, she was refloated, apparently undamaged.
Stuck in ice in Whitefish Bay about April 20, 1975; when CLIFFS VICTORY came to assistance vessels brushed. Both vessels went to Fraser Shipyard for repairs; resumed service April 25.
Disposition Withdrawn permanently from service, January, 1982. Towed out with T.W. ROBINSON in August 1987 to be scrapped in Reclife, Brazil. The "Ship House" on South Bass Island was fashioned from the pilothouse, when the vessel was scrapped in 1986.
