Vessel History

History Vessel built as \"North Sands\" type dry cargo vessel; delivered on November 16, 1942. Purchased by U.S. Maritime Commission under Hyde Park Agreement of 1941 and immediately bareboat chartered back to British Ministry of War Transport.
Disposition Sunk by submarine while in convoy from Halifax for Manchester, May 12, 1943, in position 46.05N x 25.20W, north of the Azores. Thirty-eight lives were lost, 2 crew members were taken prisoner, and two survivors spent forty-seven days at sea before being rescued.
