| History | Built as C1-M-AV1 class cargo vessel for U.S. Maritime Commission. Acquired by U.S. Navy on December 26, 1944 and commissioned on February 28, 1945 at New Orleans, LA. Departed there on March 31, 1945, with frozen meat and ammunition, for Ulithi, Western Carolines, arriving there on May 11. Proceeded to Morotai Island, N.E.I., via Palau and Leyte, where she served for three months as ammunition ship for 7th Fleet. Arrived at Leyte on July 31, 1945 and served there as ammunition ship until Japanese surrender. Then departed Leyte on August 21, 1945, on shuttle run to Subic Bay, Hollandia, Leyte, then to Manila. Left Manila on November 26, 1945, transited Panama Canal on January 8, 1946, arrived Norfolk, VA, on January 19. Decommissioned on January 31, and delivered to Maritime Commission February 1, 1946, for lay-up in James River Reserve Fleet. |
