Vessel History

Rebuilds Rebuilt at Detroit, MI by Alfred Hamilton, June 6, 1853 (136.5 x 25 x 8; 255.80 gross).
History First enrollment issued at Buffalo, NY, May 19, 1843.Lytle List says abandoned in 1862. Final Detroit enrollment, issued on July 9, 1860, was never surrendered. Poole notes indicate vessel was sold to A.S. and L. Smith, of Algonac, MI, in April, 1860, for $915. Detroit Advertiser (Poole) in August, 1863, states vessel was active in rivers. Other notes (Poole) say vessel was reduced to barge. A barge HERCULES (US 42217; 139 x 25 x 8; 195.09 gross) was enrolled at Port Huron, MI, on April 15, 1867, built by Francis Martin at Algonac in 1867. Her final enrollment was surrendered at Cleveland, OH, on June 30, 1879, and endorsed \"Vessel lost.\" Still more than likely was the former propeller.
