History | First document issued at Wilmington, DE, in August, 1979.As INDIANA HARBOR: While anchored at Sault Ste. Marie for work on her ballast system, she rode over her own anchor and punched a two-by-three foot hole in her bow. A portion of her cargo of iron ore pellets was offloaded to bring the hole above the waterline. She proceeded to Indiana Harbor where repairs were made. The incident occured on October 16, 1979. While unloading taconite pellets at Conneaut, OH, on August 22, 1980, her self-unloading gear broke down. It was repaired at Conneaut on August 24. She came into Milwaukee for "unloading problems" December 4, 1982. Repairs were expected to take two weeks and there was the possibility that she would remain in Milwaukee for the winter. On November 28, 1983, downbound in the upper St. Mary's River, she collided with the Greek-registered ANANGEL SPIRIT resulting in an 8ft.-3in wide gap in bow. |
