History As WILLIAM B. KERR: Struck by steamer BUFFALO while lying at anchor in harbor basin at Duluth, MN, September 1, 1908; $10,000 casualty.As KINSMAN INDEPENDENT: Collided with WILLIAM J. FILBERT at Burlington Northern Ore Dock, Superior, WI, when FILBERT was caught by current when entering slip, July 18, 1970. Suffered $100,000 damage; repaired at Fraser Ship Yard, Superior.
Encountered steering problems downbound at Rock Cut, St. Marys River, August 21, 1973. Avoided stone walls, but ran aground after clearing the cut. Laid up at Lorain.
Disposition Sold to Marine Salvage for scrapping, Spring, 1974. Removed from documentation in May/June, 1974. Arrived in tandem tow with JAMES DAVIDSON, at Santander, Spain, on July 21, 1974, for scrapping. Work commenced by Recuperaciones Submarinas S.A. on October 1, 1974.
