As LABRADOC: Sustained bow damage from undetermined source fall, 1976, arrived at Port Colborne, Ontario, for repairs on November 11.Caught in storm in Lake Erie north of Fairport Harbor on April 6, 1979, while bound from Huron, OH, to Cardinal, Ontario. Cargo shifted, causing dangerous list, and most of crew were lifted off by helicopter on morning of 6th. Five remained aboard in effort to bring ship to shore, but they too were taken off shortly after. Ship remained afloat through rest of storm despite list in excess of 25 degrees, and was taken in tow by tugs ATOMIC and GLENBROOK the next day. Tugs towed to Pelee Island where, as heading for shelter, LABRADOC grounded on April 8. Freed on April 13, went to Windsor for offloading and inspection, then proceeded to Port Weller Dry Docks for repairs. |
