Vessel History

Rebuilds Originally built with two pilothouse; aft pilothouse removed c.1912. Originally built with three stacks (one on port, two on starboard); fourth stack added in 1903. Extensive rebuild at Windsor, Ont., in 1964; four stacks replaced by two. Reduced to car float by Romeo Machine Service, Windsor, Ont., in summer, 1970.
History Designed by Frank E. Kirby. Towed across Detroit River to receive engines, boilers, and cabins under supervision of W.O. Russell. Made trial trip on November 6, 1884.Canadian registry closed April 23, 1979, after sale to U.S. interests.
As LANSDOWNE: In collision, Detroit River, on July 15, 1885, with steamer CLARION.
In collision, Detroit River, August 6, 1899, with steamer WILLIAM B. MORLEY. Settled on bottom in her slip at Windsor, Ont.
Blew a cylinder head in operation on Detroit River, June 24, 1970, after which was reduced to car float.
Last operated in 1974, and was converted to a restaurant and bar along the Detroit waterfront. After going out of business, she was first towed to Lorain and then to Buffalo. Towed from Buffalo to Erie, PA on November 1, 1999.
