History | While lying off Frankfort, MI, October 16, 1880, caught in gale and dragged anchors; stranded about 300 yards off shore opposite Big and Little Bald Hills, just south of Frankfort breakwaters. Vessel went to pieces, but Point Betsey Life Saving crew saved seven crewmen. One person, a woman cook, was drowned. Vessel carried 495 tons of iron ore from L'Anse, MI, for the Frankfort Furnace Co. Vessel and cargo a total loss. |
