Vessel History

Rebuilds Received deck strapping, had boilers automated and converted to oil, spring, 1974, at Fraser Shipyards, Superior.
History As IRVING S. OLDS:Sustained crack in hull during storm on Lake Michigan, April 30, 1963, en route from Port Cartier, P.Q., for Gary, IN, with iron ore. Hit bridge over Black River at Lorain, OH, on April 29, 1977, while inbound. Traffic tied up for several hours.
In collision with ARMCO in Livingston Channel south of Grosse Ile on January 4, 1978, which occured when OLDS hit an ice jam and stopped quickly and the ARMCO behind her was unable to stop as fast. OLDS sustained some shaft damage, which was repaired at the American Ship Building Company's Lorain yard.
On June 1, 1943 she collided with the CHARLES O. JENKINS in heavy fog 28 miles NE of Cleveland. She was holed above water but the JENKINS was badly damaged. After 7 hours, both ships reached Cleveland lashed together. The JENKINS was beached in the harbor.
Disposition Sold for scrap, 1988.
