Rebuilds Tonnage change, March/April, 1971 (9032 gross - 5760 net). Canadian measures, April 13, 1981, at Hamilton, Ontario (604 x 60 x 30; 10276 gross - 7007 registered). Amended May, 1981 to 10,258 gross - 6974 registered tons.
History Launched as MESABI.Built under U.S. Maritime Commission contract as an L6-S-B1 class bulk carrier.
Delivered first load of iron ore to Burns Harbor, IN, September 11, 1969 (15,700 tons of pellets from Taconite Harbor).
As LEHIGH: Rammed Lime Island Fuel Dock, St. Marys River, on November 5, 1973, sustaining some damage to starboard side; was laid up at Lorain by December 4.
As WILLOWGLEN: Ran aground June 2, 1983 at Thunder Bay; six tugs needed to pull the vessel free; it was loaded with 14,000 tons of wheat at the time. No serious damage was sustained.
Disposition Sold to Goderich Elevators, Ltd. for use as storage capacity, 1994.
