History Captured as blockade runner, July 9, 1864, Nassau for Charleston, by USS GETTYSBURG, in position 32.21N x 77.51W. Purchased by U.S. Navy from Boston Prize Court, August 18, 1864. Transferred to U.S. War Dept., August 12, 1865.U.S. document surrendered at Buffalo, NY, March 30, 1909, and endorsed \"sold alien.\" Redocumented in U.S. on January 24, 1921. Changed to oil on March 24, 1923; renamed POLING BROTHERS NO. 2 on July 3, 1928.
As BUXTON: Burned at Berkley, VA, on April 13, 1922; removed from documentation and converted from steam to oil.
Disposition Foundered off Captain Island, Long Island Sound, NY, March 12, 1940; no lives lost.
