Tonnage and dimension change, 1926 (241 x 43.16 x 18.25; 1525 gross - 925 net). Reconstructed, 1940 (247.42 x 43.16 x 18.25; 1635 gross - 958 net). |
History
|
Designed by Frank E. Kirby and originally nicknamed "Grasshopper" because she had rail tracks running between the after cabin. Hopper cars would be run over the track, running the length of the vessel, and be bottom-unloaded to load her as a collier, with a special apron designed by Kirby being installed at Conneaut, OH. She ran from there to Rondeau, Ont., and principally other Canadian Lake Erie ports in her early career. |
Disposition
|
Scrapped at Superior, WI, in 1961; forward half pulled up on bank at end of Howard's Pocket, and beached for future use as construction barge. Still there in 1967-68. |
