Departed Detroit, MI, on October 17, 1966, in tow of tug CENTRAL, for Tampa, FL.Exploded and caught fire on October 31, 1975, in after section of tug while towing barge BFT 50; crew rescued by helicopter. U.S.C.G. reportedly took both vessels in tow, but towing hawser fouled on bottom and tug rolled over and sank in 144 feet of water off Scituate, MA, thirty miles southeast of Boston, in position 42.24N x 70.45W. Final document surrendered in December, 1977. |
