| History | As WILLIAM C. MORELAND: Stranded on Sawtooth Reef, off Eagle Harbor, MI, Lake Superior, October 18, 1910, with 10,700 tons of iron ore; broke in three parts. Was abandoned as constructive total loss. In the fall, 1911, 292 feet of after end was salvaged by Reid Wrecking Co. and towed to Ecorse, MI, in September, 1912. With a recession setting in, the half-ship was towed to St. Clair River near Marine City and lay there until 1915. She was then sold to a subsidiary of Canada Steamship Lines, Ltd., towed to Superior, WI, and joined to a new forward end, arriving there on May 29, 1916. Departed Duluth as SIR TREVOR DAWSON on November 21, 1916, with 11,325 tons of ore for Chicago. As CHARLES L.
