Vessel History

Rebuilds Converted to bulk carrier by Maryland Dry Dock Co., Baltimore, MD; new forebody built by Ingalls Shipbuilding Co., Pascagoula, AL, in 1951. Towed up Mississippi River and completed by American Ship Building Co., South Chicago, IL, 1951 (585.58 x 71.58 x 29.75; 9115 gross - 5719 net).
History Launched under U.S. Maritime Commission contract as C4-S-A4 class cargo carrier. Laid up in James River Reserve Fleet until 1951.1947-1949: American President Lines, Portland, OR, operators.
As CHARLES M. WHITE: Ran aground in Little Rapids Cut, St. Marys River, on October 28, 1963; released on October 31, 1963.
Stranded on Lake Michigan, April 13, 1974, with an estimated $110,000 damages.
Removed from documentation in August, 1980, as sold Danish for scrapping.
Disposition Departed Quebec City, P.Q., September 8, 1980, in tow of tug FAIRPLAY IX, in tandem with THOMAS F. PATTON. Arrived at Karachi, Pakistan prior to December 23, 1980, for scrapping. Scrapped by Hindustan Steel Syndicate at Darukhana in March, 1981.
