Launched as ADIRONDACK.Built under U.S. Maritime Commission contract as L6-S-B1 class bulk carrier.
Pushed ashore by ice while backing from Stoneport, MI, March 30, 1971; suffered minor bottom damage. Snapped cables during blizzard and gale at Stoneport, MI, December 15, 1973, and was blown onto rocks. As RICHARD J. REISS: She suffered a 28-inch long crack along the waterline on April 8, 1982 in ice in the Straits of Mackinaw. She was bound from Toledo for Charlevoix, MI, with coal. After inspection by the Coast Guard, she was accompanied by BISCAYNE BAY to Rogers City. She was expected to be in Lorain at AmShip building for thirty days. |
