Vessel History

Rebuilds Lengthened and rebuilt as Lakes bulk carrier by Davie Shipbuilding, Ltd., Lauzon, P.Q., in 1977 (716 x 76 x 36; 18531 gross - 12617 net). Reconstructed in 1979 (Collingwood hull 221).
History Registered at Toronto, Ontario, on November 4, 1977.As CARTIERCLIFFE HALL: Vessel's aft end suddenly burst into flames early on morning of June 5, 1979, while about eleven miles off Copper Harbor, MI. Fire engulfed most of ship's cabins, forcing crew to abandon ship. Six crew members unable to get out in time and lost, with THOMAS W. LAMONT and LOUIS R. DESMARAIS picking up survivors. Vessel towed to Thunder Bay after accident. One of the survivors later died in a hospital in Ann Arbor, MI.
Was upbound in the St. Lawrence River on June 24, 1980 when a steering gear failure forced her to veer out of the channel and run aground near Cornwall, Ontario. She was refloated with the aid of three tugs and a salvage barge.
Was last reported at the Fraser Shipyard in Superior for propeller repair. 7/1982
