Vessel History

History Rig - Submarine Chaser Escort.Commissioned on April 30, 1945 and departed Puget Sound Navy Yard for Pearl Harbor, arriving there on July 1, 1945. Assigned to Hawaiian Sea Frontier Zones as weather station and plan guard ship between Pearl Harbor and Midway. After World War II continued training services out of Pearl Harbor into 1949. On November 12, 1949, reported to Atlantic Fleet and arrived at Philadelphia on November 24, 1949. After upkeep and repairs, departed Philadelphia on May 7, 1950, for Naval Reserve training duty on Great Lakes. Served out of Chicago with 9th Naval District Naval Reserve, 1950-1970. Assigned name of PORTAGE on February 15, 1956.
Disposition Dropped from Navy List on July 1, 1970.
