| History | Rig - FrigatePF-65 (USS UNIONTOWN) launched as USS CHATTANOOGA. Commissioned on October 6, 1944. Built as an S2-S2-AQ1 class frigate under a U.S. Maritime Commission contract. Renamed UNIONTOWN on August 16, 1944. Served on convoy duty to North Africa, 1944-1945. Converted to a weather ship and stationed off Newfoundland, 1945. Decommissioned at Norfolk, VA, December 20, 1945, and removed from Navy Register, January 8, 1946. Sold to Argentina in July, 1947. |
