Vessel History

History Rig - FrigatePF-65 (USS UNIONTOWN) launched as USS CHATTANOOGA.
Commissioned on October 6, 1944.
Built as an S2-S2-AQ1 class frigate under a U.S. Maritime Commission contract. Renamed UNIONTOWN on August 16, 1944. Served on convoy duty to North Africa, 1944-1945. Converted to a weather ship and stationed off Newfoundland, 1945. Decommissioned at Norfolk, VA, December 20, 1945, and removed from Navy Register, January 8, 1946. Sold to Argentina in July, 1947.
Disposition Dropped from Jane's Fighting Ships by 1982.
