| History | Sold to U.S. Navy, November 25, 1940, Lt. Comdr. W.H. Meyer, commanding; commissioned as PY-15 (USS CORAL) on February 27, 1941. Made two Naval Reserve cruises from Philadelphia in June, 1941. Sailed on August 30, 1941 to October 8, 1941, out of Newport, RI, on inshore patrol duty, then departed for training exercises at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Following, was with Service Squadron 9, at Key West, FL. Decommissioned on August 12, 1943; recommissioned on August 27, 1943, and served as escort convoy to Norfolk, VA, arriving there on September 6, 1943. Decommissioned on September 10, 1943, and laid up. Sold by U.S. Navy Dept. on July 15, 1947. |
