History
|
As MARTHA HINDMAN: Suffered small fire on board at Toronto, December 31, 1974. Struck south pier at Goderich, Ontario, on December 22, 1978, sustaining 25-foot gash in starboard bow near waterline. Bow came to rest on bottom, but was towed to nearby elevator and enough of cargo unloaded to raise damaged area above water. Gash found to extend from forward of collision bulkhead to first side tank.As LAC DES ILES: Grounded just below Grassy Island, Detroit River, on October 6, 1980, the result of a faulty steering mechanism. She freed herself a few hours later. A subsequent inspection at the Port Weller Dry Dock yard revealed damages too extensive to justify repairs. |
