Vessel History

Rebuilds Overhauled and converted for coastwise tanker service at Camden, NJ, in 1946. Repowered, rebuilt, and converted to self-unloading bulk carrier at Southern Shipbuilding Corp., Slidell, LA, 1962. Dimensions after second rebuild (938 gross - 496 net; 213.58 x 37 x 14.25).
History Turned over to British upon completion, operated as a water carrier by Anglo-Saxon Petroleum Co. in Mediterranean Sea and Indian Ocean, returned to U.S. government at end of war.As LOC BAY: Suffered reduction gear problem off Duck Island on November 29, 1977, while bound from Picton for Rochester. A McAllister tug was dispatched to help her, and both tug and freighter went aground for a short time at the entrance to the harbor at Rochester.
As BADGER STATE: Encountered some difficulty while on a passage from Erie, PA to Upper Lakes. Began taking on water in the St. Clair River. Docked at the Seaway Terminal at Port Huron, MI. No further word concerning the cause of the problem. (Documented February 11, 1984).
