Vessel History

History First documented in November, 1978. As GEORGE A. STINSON: Struck lock wall at Sault Ste. Marie, MI, January 23, 1979; damage estimated at $200,000. As a result of mechanical failure, the boom collapsed on the STINSON the night of April 17, 1983 at Detroit. No injuries were reported. Grounded near Marine City on April 20, 1984 and finally was freed on April 24 after lightering part of her load of pellets into the PAUL H. CARNAHAN. Ran aground off Gros Cap, MI, on September 5, 1996. Ran aground off Mackinac Island, September 4, 2014. Freed after offloading 5,700 tons of taconite pellets to another vessel.
