History First enrollment issued at Cleveland, OH, September 5, 1857.In tow of propeller GARDEN CITY, along with schooner JAMES C. KING, was allowed to swing too far to leeward in making piers at entrance to Portage Ship Canal, MI, Lake Superior, on September 7, 1898. Vessel drove herself up on beach and became a total loss; no lives lost. At time of casualty, vessel was bound from Hancock, MI, for Ashland, WI, light.
