Rebuilds Converted from tanker to dry bulk carrier and lengthened by Bethlehem Shipbuilding Co., Key Highway Yard, Baltimore, MD; midbody built by Schlieker-Werft (hull #556), Hamburg, Germany, in 1960-1961 (710.5 x 75 x 39.66; 12501 gross - 8811 net). Received new stern quarters and automated boilers, American Ship Building Co., South Chicago, IL, winter, 1971-1972 (12496 gross - 8696 net).
History Built as T2-SE-A1 class tanker under U.S. Maritime Administration contract.As LEON FALK, JR: Struck lock wall in St. Lawrence Seaway on July 25, 1976, causing $80,000 damage.
As LEON FALK, JR: Suffered a small fire ignited by a welder's torch on January 16, 1980. The minimal damage was limited to rubber tires, mooring lines in the storage room, and the outside shell plate, which firefighters had to cut through to get to the fire.
Disposition Departed Quebec in tandem tow with MENIHEK LAKE, August 31, 1985; arrived at Gijon, Spain, September 30, 1985, for scrapping by Desguaces Heme.
