| History | As J.H. SHEADLE: Steering gear became disabled while backing away from ore dock at Marquette, MI, with load of 10,000 tons iron ore; November 19, 1920. Vessel struck rocks, tearing away rudder and shoe, and puncturing number seven tank. While in this condition, storm came up, doing considerable damage. Released November 29, 1920, but wintered at Marquette.As PIERSON INDEPENDENT: Went aground above Brockville, Ontario on October 28, 1979. After she was freed, she was beached. Her cargo of 11,500 tons of grain was lightered to the MAPLEHEATH and the E.J. NEWBERRY. The tugs ROBINSON BAY and DANIEL MCALLISTER also came to her assistance. She was freed on October 31 and dry-docked at Port Weller Dry Dock on November 11. A survey revealed the damage to be too extensive to justify repairing her. |
| Disposition | In November 1979, she was sold to Strathearne Terminals of Hamilton, Ontario for scrap. In 1980 she was towed to overseas shipbreakers under the name COMPANY. Arrived in tow at Santander, Spain, for scrapping on June 11, 1980. |
