Vessel History

History Seriously damaged by fire on Lake Huron, June, 1857.Ashore near Mackinaw, July, 1856. Lightered off.
Burned at Chicago. Arrived at Buffalo, NY, June 22, 1866, to be rebuilt.
In collision with propeller EQUINOX at Clay Banks, 1869.
Broached in gale and sank in six fathoms of water, October 17, 1870, off Point Abino, Lake Erie, eight miles from Buffalo, NY. Was bound from Chicago with 20,000 bu. corn and 200 bbls. wheat; loss estimated at $40,000; no lives lost. Salvage operations, with tug RESCUE, commenced in July, 1871; were still in progress as of September 8, but apparently were unsuccessful.
