History Down Welland Canal, June 25, 1973, in tow of tugs HELEN MCALLISTER and SALVAGE MONARCH. Departed Quebec, in tandem with JOHN P. REISS, in tow of Polish tug KORAL, June 29, 1973, and arrived at Castellon, Spain, prior to July 19, 1973, for scrapping. Scrapping begun in September, 1973, by I.M. Varela Davalillo. Removed from documentation, May/June, 1973.Was first commercial ship on Great Lakes to carry radar.
While at Manitowoc Shipbuilding Corp., Manitowoc, WI, for \"general repairs and engine overhaul,\" fire destroyed upper deck and forward section on July 29, 1971. Damages estimated at from $450,000 to $750,000.
Disposition Sold to Marine Salvage, Ltd., Port Colborne, Ont., after lying in disrepair since 1971 at Manitowoc, WI. Cleared Manitowoc in tow of Canadian tug HELEN MCALLISTER, May 31, 1973, and arrived at Humberstone, Ont., on June 3, 1973.
