History Built as C1-M-AV1 class cargo vessel for U.S. War Shipping Administration. Acquired by U.S. Navy, January 22, 1945, and commissioned at Houston, TX, February 7, 1945. Departed from Panama Canal, March 21, 1945, and arrived at Zamboanga, Philippines, via Ulithi, on May 11, 1945. Took part in invasion of Balikpapan, via Tawi Tawi (Sulu Archipeligo), on July 1, 1945, then departed Borneo for Morotai and Philippines on July 10, 1945. Called at Manus, Manila, and Guiuan, Samar, to discharge cargo; departed November 19, 1945, for Panama Canal and Norfolk, VA. Decommissioned on January 25, 1946, and returned to Maritime Commission on January 29, 1946. Stricken from Navy Register on March 12, 1946.Operated under charter by Cosmopolitan Shipping Co., Inc., New York, NY, 1946-1947.
