History Acquired by U.S. Navy on January 13, 1941; commissioned on April 9, 1941. Assigned to Naval Research Laboratory, Bellevue, District of Columbia, to perform experimental work with underwater sound. Operated in Potomac and Chesapeake Bay area; New London, CT; off Florida coast; and in Bahamas region. In 1945 and 1946 served as tender to Presidential yachts POTOMAC and WILLIAMSBURG. Decommissioned on June 21, 1946 and turned over to U.S. Maritime Commission on January 31, 1947 for disposal.
