| History | First enrolled on January 9, 1952.Built for service across Straits of Mackinac, St. Ignace to Mackinaw City, MI. Last trip across Straits made on November 1, 1957. Then laid up at Mackinaw City by opening of new bridge. Seized by U.S. Marshal, November 16, 1960, at Detroit, MI, for non-payment; returned to State of Michigan. Ran between Rimouski and Baie Comeau, 1961-1967. Then sold for $1,690,000, for service in British Columbia, running from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale. SALTWATER KIN: Steamboat Bill reports that last October out in British Columbia GULF KANAYAK (VACATIONLAND) was moved from the former Alaska Trainship ferry landing on the Fraser River at Delta to Burrard Inlet and moored to a buoy off Dollarton. The vessel is now owned by a company called 301073 B.C. and has CANARCTIC EXPLORER painted on one side although this name has not been officially registered. (Chips 6/27/87) |
