| History | First enrolled at Cleveland, OH, on April 25, 1885.Keel was laid in August, 1883, on speculation. Some consideration was given as use for fire tug for City of Cleveland, but was rejected. Left the yard in May, 1885. As RECORD: Collided with tug JOE D. DUDLEY in Duluth harbor, May 31, 1895; $500 loss to RECORD. Crossed bow of steamer ROBERT FULTON while taking a line, during heavy rain storm, and was sunk, June 3, 1898; three lives lost. Loss estimated at $7,000. Whaleback steamer JAMES B. NEILSON, while being towed, increased speed, causing tug to roll over and sink; one life lost, October 8, 1899. Was struck by steamer BRADFORD while lying at ore dock, Superior, WI, and sank; one life lost, November 7, 1902. Loss estimated at $7,000. |
