Vessel History

Rebuilds Passed upbound at Detroit December 2, 1982 in tow of the tugs SALVAGE MONARCH and HELEN M. MCCALLISTER reportedly bound for Collingwood for conversion to a cement carrier. Converted in 1983 to 7700 metric ton self unloading cement carrier.
History As FORT WILLIAM: Exploded and capsized at dock, Montreal, P.Q., September 14, 1965; 5 lives lost. Refloated November 22, 1965, by Foundation Maritime, Ltd., and taken to Davie Shipbuilding & Repair, Ltd., Lauzon, P.Q., for repairs. In collision, August 10, 1967, near Port Huron Lightship, with str. PAUL L. TIETJEN, severely damaging the latter. Sustained broken propeller blade in Lake Huron early June, 1975; received repairs at Thunder Bay, Ont., on June 5. Ran aground near entrance to Maumee Bay on December 14, 1977, apparently when she got off course in heavy fog. Freed after a short time by two local tugs. Struck the Detroit River Light while downbound in the early morning of October 1, 1979. Although the bow was pushed in by the crash against the stone base of the lighthouse, the hull was not punctured below the waterline. The U.S.C.G. estimated the damage at $100,000. As STEPHAN B.
