Vessel History

History Built as C1-M-AV1 class cargo vessel for U.S. Maritime Commission. Operated from March, 1945 to July 28, 1946 by Grace
Lines in Atlantic trade. On latter date, transferred to
Department of Army for service with the Transportation Corps in
the Japan-Philippines area. Was fitted with troop and passenger
accommodations by Moore Dry Dock Co., Oakland, CA, in July
1, 1950, for troop and cargo movement in and around Korea.
Transferred to Atlantic service in 1955, then placed in
National Defense Reserve Fleet (Hudson River Group) on October
24, 1957. Reactivated by Military Sea Transportation Service on
December 1, 1966 and converted to survey ship for service on
Atlantic. Inactivated in December, 1970, and transferred on
lease to Republic of China on March 29, 1972.

In 1945, Launched as ALEXANDER R. NININGER, JR.
Disposition Sunk as target, 1989.
